Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary

Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary spreads across an area of 777 square km is one of the most sought after destination in Thekkady. Of the 777 square km, 360 sq. km is thick evergreen forest. Ramakkalmedu

Ramakalmedu is a historic site with a Monument to Kuravan and Kurathi – a large statue that depicts the Sangam Period and Sangam landscape of Kerala and Tamil Nadu. The monument provides a panoramic view of Tamil Nadu villages and towns, including Cumbum, Theni, Kombai, Thevaram, Uthamapalayam, Bodinaykannor and Vaiga. Rolling green hills and the fresh mountain air make Ramakalmedu an enchanting retreat. The view is striking at dusk when all these towns in Tamil Nadu, are lighted.

Spices Plantation Visit

The tour covers visit to spice, coffee and tea plantations, tea factories, tribal settlement etc, and be arranged through the district tourism information office at Thekkady junction in Kumily.

The forest department, Thekkady offers facilities for elephant rides through the jungle.

Main trekking areas near Thekkady are Kurisumala, Pullumedu, Ottakathalamedu and Grampi, near vandiperiyar.The forest department conducts daily treks from the boat landing station at Thekkady to the Nellikkampetty area and Manakkavala.
